Most dogs love antlers.  They instinctively know that they provide vital vitamins and minerals. (They are very high in calcium)  They taste good (for a dog) and compared to meat bones, they do not split, crack, or splinter.  They do not have a soft marrow core so there is no bacteria growth.  They don’t need to be refrigerated so they stay good forever. The are great for keeping teeth clean and can keep an active dog busy for hours.

Our antlers are what is called “Natural drop antlers”.  Just as the name implies, these antlers are literally picked up off the ground after they have fallen off the animal. Deer and elk start shedding their antlers in February and are usually done shedding by April. Our supplier heads out into the field, following the trails left by the deer and elk and looks for the antlers that have been dropped. Competition is stiff though. Wolves, fox, beavers and other animals know these are valuable and will pick them up and carry them to a safe place where they can chew on them.

We are frequently asked why antlers are so expensive. The answer is because it is so labor intensive to get them ready to sell.  Naturally it takes quite a bit of time to find and collect them. Then they are brought back to the shop where they are steam cleaned. They are then cut into different lengths and each antler is sanded smooth so there are no sharp edges.  Another variable in the price of antlers is their availability in the wild. Deep snow, such has been the norm for this Winter, makes finding (or even just getting) to them very difficult. Because of the laws of supply and demand, the prices can vary widely from year to year.  We watch the prices and buy when they hit their lowest point.

One of the best things about antlers is they last for a very long time. It’s n

ot uncommon for an antler to last months or even longer.  We have all sizes, from smaller one for the young or petite dogs, to the large ones for the biggest dog.
